coolstar, developer of Electra jailbreak toolkit for iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2, has tweeted that anyone on iOS 11.2.x should stay there.

coolstar, developer of Electra jailbreak toolkit for iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2, has tweeted that anyone on iOS 11.2.x should stay there.

He has stated that while a new exploit would be required for iOS 11.2.x as Apple has already patched the async_exploit discovered by Ian Beer, which was used for iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2 jailbreaks like Electra, most of the patches in Electra will work in iOS 11.2.x. Don’t get excited as it doesn’t suggest that he is able to jailbreak iOS 11.2.2 – iOS 11.2.

There hasn’t been much news about the progress on iOS 11.2.x jailbreak. Security researchers at Alibaba’s Pandora Labs have been able to jailbreak iOS 11.2.1 as well as iOS 11.2 on iPhone X. However, they had also said that though they were able to jailbreak iOS 11.2.1 quickly, they didn’t plan to release a jailbreak, as their work was limited by research purposes only.

It is also not clear if they were able to jailbreak iOS 11.2.2 as well or Apple has patched the security vulnerability used to jailbreak iOS 11.2.1. It remains to be seen if hackers and jailbreak developers like coolstar can discover the vulnerabilities used by the researchers.

One of the golden rules of jailbreaking is to stay where you are and avoid updating your device to the latest iOS software update to improve your chances of jailbreaking your iOS device. So it goes without saying is that if even if you’re on iOS 11.0.x or iOS 11.1.x, you should not update your iOS device as you can use jailbreak tools like Electra and LiberiOS jailbreak.
