Google Pixel 3 XL vs iPhone XS Max Speed Test

Pixel 3 XL leak

Google’s flagship smartphone, the Pixel 3 XL, has started hitting the retail stores in the United States. It compares directly to Apple’s iPhone XS Max which is the Cupertino company’s best iPhone around. So, how do the two devices perform in a speed test comparison which primarily involves loading a bunch of apps?

Well, as it turns out, Google may know how to make a smartphone with a great camera but it has a lot to learn from Apple in the performance department. The iPhone XS Max absolutely humiliated the Pixel 3 XL in the app loading test where it took around 1 minute 46 seconds, while the Pixel 3 XL took 2 minute and 2 seconds. The slower performance of the Pixel 3 XL in the first round could have been forgiven had it performed a bit better in the second round which involves loading the already open apps from the RAM of the phone.

The Pixel 2 XL was known for its multitasking issues and the same trend continues with the Pixel 3 XL. As can be seen in the video above, the Pixel 3 XL performed terribly in the multitasking comparison and could only keep 3 apps in its memory, with all other apps being unloaded. Due to this, the iPhone XS Max was over a minute faster than the Pixel 3 XL in completing the speed test. This is the first time in a very long time that a smartphone has performed so poorly in terms of multitasking in YouTuber PhoneBuff’s speed test.

The tests were run multiple times and the results were consistent across all runs. If anything, this shows that Google seems to have made a mistake by not going with 6GB RAM on the Pixel 3 XL as it would have dramatically helped in improving its multitasking performance.

What do you think about the extremely poor performance of the Pixel 3 XL in the speed test?
