Some Microsoft Office Apps Will Support macOS Mojave’s Dark Mode Soon

It has been over a month since Apple launched macOS Mojave to the public, and, with it, introduced one of the most oft-requested features: dark mode.

This isn’t just a change to a few macOS UI elements, or a skin on some apps. Apple’s dark mode in macOS Mojave is a system-wide dark mode, and allows for third-party apps to jump in on the fun, too. That includes Microsoft, which is letting the world know today that some of the apps available in its suite of Office apps are going to be updated to support Mojave’s dark mode soon.

Microsoft Product Manger for Office’s iOS and macOS apps, Akshay Bakshi, took to Twitter today to tweet out that some of the Office apps are getting full dark mode support in a subsequent update. Bakshi said, in part, “Office Visual Refresh and Dark Mode support rolling out now to Insiders Fast with build 181029!” Bakshi points that only Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are getting updated to support Mojave’s dark mode, so it’s not the full suite of apps just yet.

With the way that dark mode is implemented in macOS Mojave, any app that doesn’t yet support the feature stands out. And not necessarily in a good way. For fans of the Office suite of apps, it’s good to see Microsoft is adding support for the desktop operating system’s feature soon — even if it is for only a select number of apps.
