Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Billy Crudup Join Apple’s Morning Show Drama

Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Billy Crudup join Apple's morning show drama

Things are starting to heat up for Apple’s upcoming morning show drama, as the production is starting to add noteworthy cast members on a regular basis now.

The untitled production is in the casting stages, and it has just brought on two more individuals. According to a report on Thursday from Variety, the morning show drama has added Gugu Mbatha-Raw (A Wrinkle In Time, Beyond The Lights) and Billy Crudup (Watchmen, Almost Famous).

Mbatha-Raw will be taking on the role of Hannah Shoenfield, who is described as being a “whip-smart and charming” talent booker. Meanwhile, Crudup will be playing Cory Ellison, a “forward-thinking president of the network news division”.

Mbatha-Raw and Crudup will be joining an already impressive cast. It was recently confirmed that Steve Carell (40 Year-Old Virgin, The Office) had joined the cast. And Jennifer Aniston (Friends, We’re The Millers) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies, Legally Blonde) have been confirmed for the project since day once.

At this point in time, Apple has already ordered two seasons for the morning show drama, with each season consisting of 10 episodes each. The show is loosely based on the book “Top of the Morning” written by Brian Stelter and published in 2013. It details the recent rivalry between NBC’s Today show and ABC’s Good Morning America.

The morning show drama was actually Apple’s first major drama to be nailed down for its original content effort. It was highly sought after by other networks and platforms, but news that Apple landed the project broke back in November of last year. It will be one show among many, which recent rumors have suggested Apple will “give away” to owners of Apple products, rather than having them subscribe to yet another service.
