Snap is expanding to the desktop in a major way, thanks to a brand new app the company is launching for desktop computers.
Snap Camera is available right now as a free download for macOS and Windows 10. Snap says the new app will bring the platform’s popular Lenses, those created by Snap directly and those created by individuals using Snap’s Lens Studio, to the desktop experience, and even let folks use those augmented reality features in other services, like YouTube and Twitch.
“With Snap Camera for desktop, choose from thousands of Lenses, including classics made by Snapchat as well as new designs created daily by the Lens Creator community through Lens Studio. This means more streaming and sharing with Lenses — now on more devices!”
With Snap Camera, users can quickly add AR effects and masks. That includes the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds heavy helmet, or make yourself look like McCree from the popular title Overwatch, among many other options. What’s more, those filters are available across services, so you can use the Snap Camera to liven up your stream on Twitch or YouTube, or just spice up a video call in Google Hangouts, or Skype.
You don’t even need to have a Snapchat account to use the Lenses, either. Users will able to search for a specific Lens via a built-in search function, or they can just peruse the list of options. Lenses can be assigned to shortcuts, and they can be marked as a favorite, too.
